Operations / Departmental Manager

The Operations or Departmental Manager Level 5 Apprenticeship is designed for individuals who manage teams and projects in line with a private, public or voluntary organisation’s operational or departmental strategy.

What does the EPA involve?

The end point assessment, or EPA, for the Operations or Departmental Manager standard is made up of two components.

1

Professional discussion, underpinned by portfolio

This is a structured, in-depth two-way conversation between the apprentice and independent assessor. It allows the apprentice to evidence how they have met the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed which are underpinned by evidence drawn from their portfolio.

2

Project proposal, presentation and questioning

This assessment has two components. The project proposal involves the apprentice completing a relevant and defined piece of work that has a real business benefit. Apprentices will also prepare and deliver a presentation focusing on the project proposal. It will be followed by questioning from the independent assessor.

Apprenticeship standard

An apprenticeship standard is a short document based on an occupation, outlining the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) needed for someone to be competent in the occupation’s duties.

All apprenticeship standards have an accompanying assessment plan. This document details the independent assessment that apprentices will undertake at the end of the apprenticeship. This will include details on the assessment method(s) and processes that will be followed.
