What is End-Point Assessment?
End-Point Assessment, now known as an apprenticeship assessment, is the final stage of an apprenticeship.
It is an independent assessment that confirms an apprentice has met the required standard and can demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to perform confidently in their role.
EPA ensures consistency, quality and fairness across every apprenticeship.
How does it work?
Employers, supported by their chosen training provider, select an End-Point Assessment Organisation from the Register of End-Point Assessment Organisations published by the Education and Skills Funding Agency.
Each apprenticeship standard includes a defined assessment plan, designed by employers in that sector. While assessment methods vary depending on the role, they follow a clear and structured framework.
Depending on the standard, an apprentice may complete:
- A practical assessment
- A professional discussion or interview
- A work-based project
- Written or multiple-choice tests
- A presentation
