Apprenticeship

The AI and automation practitioner level 4 apprenticeship

The AI and Automation Practitioner apprenticeship focuses on designing, building, and improving automated systems that support business processes. It develops the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to apply AI and automation tools in real scenarios, analyse processes to identify opportunities, design and implement solutions, and work with stakeholders to deliver measurable outcomes.

How assessment is changing

The reforms move assessment closer to real work. Rather than a single high-stakes endpoint event, assessment is built across the programme, supported by structured assessment points, and brought together through final validation and quality assurance. This gives a more complete picture of competence and reduces pressure at the end of the apprenticeship.

our approach

Assessment decisions are made against clear outcomes, not individual methods. Evidence is gathered through a blend of workplace activity and structured assessment, with consistency maintained through structured sampling and quality checks. Grading is aligned to clear criteria so expectations stay the same for every apprentice.

We focus on what matters most: helping apprentices demonstrate their skills with confidence, in a way that reflects their role.

Apprenticeship standard

AI and automation practitioner apprenticeship standard

The AI and Automation Practitioner standard covers the skills and knowledge needed to design, build, and deploy artificial intelligence and automation solutions that improve organisational processes and outcomes. It is the first standard to be assessed under the reformed apprenticeship assessment framework.

AI and automation practitioner assessment plan

All apprenticeship standards have an accompanying assessment plan. The AI and Automation Practitioner assessment plan reflects the requirements of the reformed framework and is published on the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education website.

I would also like to pass on positive feedback for Michelle, Apprentice Assessor and IQA. I was apprehensive about the end-point assessment, although I was fully prepared. She was very approachable, helpful and supportive which made me feel at ease

I just wanted to share how good Catherine in your EPA Admin team is. She's very responsive, always helpful and does exactly what she says she will do. As a customer its refreshing to know that you never have to chase, but more importantly makes you feel valued.
