The Public Relations and Communications Assistant apprenticeship develops the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to support PR and communications functions across a range of organisational settings. It is suited to individuals working within in-house communications teams, PR agencies, or as part of wider marketing and stakeholder engagement functions across public, private, and charitable sector organisations.

What does the Public Relations & Communications Assistant assessment involve?

The apprenticeship assessment for the Public Relations and Communications Assistant standard is made up of two components.

Project with presentation and questioning

After gateway, apprentices produce a 2,500-word work-based project report addressing a real PR or communications brief, covering objectives, research, planning, content produced, and outcomes, submitted to progress minded by week 8 of the EPA period. This is followed by a 15-minute presentation and 30 minutes of questioning delivered via Microsoft Teams, with a minimum of 6 questions.

Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

A structured 60-minute professional discussion delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams. The assessor uses planned and follow-up questions to explore how the apprentice applied PR and communications skills and behaviours in practice, underpinned by a portfolio of real work from the apprenticeship.
