The Digital Product Manager Level 4 Apprenticeship
The Digital Product Manager apprenticeship develops the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to manage digital products through their lifecycle, from discovery and development through to iteration and improvement. It is suited to individuals working in product, digital, or technology teams across public, private, and charitable sector organisations.
What does Digital Product Manager EPA involve?
The apprenticeship assessment for the Digital Product Manager standard is made up of two components.
Project with presentation and questioning
After gateway, apprentices produce a 1,500-word project report on managing a transition between stages of the product lifecycle, submitted to progress minded by week 10 of the EPA period. This is followed by a 20-minute presentation and 40 minutes of questioning delivered via Microsoft Teams, covering product development, standards, and product operations.
Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
A structured 60-minute professional discussion delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams. The assessor uses planned and follow-up questions to explore how the apprentice applied product management skills and behaviours in practice, underpinned by a portfolio of real work from the apprenticeship. At progress minded, we guide all parties through the process clearly and calmly, so there are no surprises at the end.
Apprenticeship standard
Digital Product Manager Apprenticeship Standard
The Digital Product Manager standard covers the skills and knowledge needed to manage digital products through their lifecycle, balancing user needs, technical constraints, and organisational priorities. It is designed for individuals working in roles where defining product vision, managing backlogs, and collaborating across teams to deliver effective digital products is central to their day-to-day responsibilities.
Digital Product Manager assessment plan
All apprenticeship standards have an accompanying assessment plan. This document details the independent assessment that apprentices will undertake at the end of the apprenticeship. This will include details on the assessment methods and processes that will be followed.

Ready to find out more about delivering the Digital Product Manager standard with progress minded? We are happy to talk through timelines, requirements, and how we work alongside your delivery team.
Process
Our process - we make EPA easy
Step 1
We start with open conversations about your delivery, employers, and standards. This helps us understand your context, answer any questions, and see if we are a good fit.
Step 2
We help delivery teams interpret assessment plans and prepare their apprentices. Delivery toolkits and guides provide top tips, example questions, and practical readiness support.
Step 3
Apprentices schedule their assessment in our booking portal, showing live assessor availability. This reduces admin and email back and forth.
Step 4
Assessors take time to get to know the apprentice and their role. Questions are contextualised to their workplace and experience, with a calm, supportive, and friendly approach.
Step 5
Constructive feedback is provided in all cases, highlighting strengths and areas for development so apprentices know how to progress, whatever the outcome.
