The Cyber Security Technician Apprenticeship
The Cyber Security Technician apprenticeship develops the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to identify vulnerabilities, respond to security incidents, and implement protective measures across a range of technical environments. It is suited to individuals working in cyber security, IT security, or technical operations roles across public, private, and charitable sector organisations.
What does the cyber security technician apprenticeship assessment involve?
The apprenticeship assessment for the Cyber Security Technician standard is made up of three components.
Scenario demonstrations with questioning
Apprentices complete four scenario-based demonstrations over a structured assessment period of up to 5 hours, with each scenario lasting 75 minutes. Tasks reflect real cyber security activities such as monitoring, secure working, and responding to alerts, with up to 5 questions per scenario asked by the assessor to confirm understanding and reasoning, delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams.
Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
A structured 60-minute professional discussion, with a minimum of 10 questions, delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams. The assessor explores how the apprentice applied policies, procedures, and secure practices in their work, underpinned by a portfolio presented across four required sections.
Knowledge test
A 40-question closed-book test completed remotely under controlled invigilation, assessing core cyber security knowledge, legislation, and organisational security practices. At progress minded, we guide all parties through the process clearly and calmly, so there are no surprises at the end.
