The Network Engineer Level 4 Apprenticeship
The Network Engineer apprenticeship develops the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to plan, implement, and manage network systems across a range of technical environments. It is suited to individuals working in networking, infrastructure, or IT operations roles across public, private, and charitable sector organisations.
What does the Network Engineer EPA involve?
The apprenticeship assessment for the Network Engineer standard is made up of two components.
Simulation assessment and Questioning
Apprentices complete simulation assessments in a virtual lab environment provided by progress minded, carrying out real network engineering tasks such as configuring devices, testing performance, and applying security measures. This is followed by a questioning session of 30 to 45 minutes depending on version, where the assessor explores the apprentice's reasoning and decision-making, delivered via Microsoft Teams.
Professional discussion underpinned by portfolio
A structured 60-minute professional discussion delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams. The assessor uses planned and follow-up questions to explore how the apprentice applied network engineering skills and behaviours in practice, underpinned by a portfolio of real work from the apprenticeship. At progress minded, we guide all parties through the process clearly and calmly, so there are no surprises at the end.
