Guidance for Apprentices

Our team will support you through the process, ensuring you understand the expectations, requirements and processes for end-point assessment (EPA).

Progress, not pressure

Your apprenticeship is about building confidence, capability, and real-world competence. End-point assessment is simply the final step in that journey.

At progress minded, we are here to make that step feel clear, structured, and manageable. We explain what to expect, help you understand the process, and ensure assessment feels like a natural progression, not a last-minute hurdle.

Understanding roles and responsibilities

Apprenticeship assessment works best when everyone understands their role. Each organisation involved has a distinct responsibility to ensure fairness, independence, and clarity throughout.

Progress Minded

We are your independent End-Point Assessment Organisation. We:

Are selected by your employer and training provider
Develop assessment materials
Moderate grading decisions
Request your apprenticeship certificate

We are not involved in on-programme training, ensuring assessment remains impartial and fair.

Assessor

Your assessor is recruited and quality-assured by progress minded. They:

Review your portfolio
Conduct your assessment
Recommend your final grade

They are not involved in on-programme training and maintain independence at all times.

On-programme journey

To remain impartial, progress minded is not involved in your training phase.

During your apprenticeship, your training provider will deliver structured learning aligned to the knowledge, skills, and behaviours within your standard. This includes:

  • Theoretical learning
  • Practical workplace experience
  • Development of a portfolio of evidence
  • Regular progress reviews
  • Reflective accounts
  • Achievement of English and maths, where required

You will be supported by your employer mentor and formatively assessed by your training provider. These assessments are designed to help you grow and improve. They do not form part of your end-point assessment.

When your employer confirms that you are consistently meeting the required standard, you will move to the gateway.
